Only speak from personal experience

Be precise in your appraisal of another’s work by avoiding opinions or generalizations wherever possible.

Using “I” statements (“I did not find the tool useful” vs. “it made no sense” or “you wasted your time”) appropriately contextualizes your opinion without assuming intrinsic value or the potential reaction of executives. Even if you have heard the opinions of others, avoid using examples you did not experience, test or review personally. If others have opinions or feedback, quote these individuals verbatim or request written statements be shared directly with this individual.
