Normalize Difference

Ideas offered by folks with neurodivergent conditions are not evidence of mental disorders or pathologies of thought— they are simply uncommon ways of seeing the world.

While there is no intrinsic connection between neurodivergence and mental illness, the way these unique thinkers are treated inside a company can take its toll.

Neurodivergent approaches are often penalized, or disregarded because they are not immediately understood. Difference is considered a liability instead of an opportunity to innovate. The result is a bias toward agreement and homogeneity of thought.

This may result in a hostile work culture and bullying of those who are different unless a clear value for difference is established and sustained.
