Remain teachable

As an employee, you have already met the requirements to fill the role, as have your peers and managers. It is counterproductive, then, to worry if others trust your judgment, or respect your contributions. This is because it distracts you from your work goals to focus on the views of others, placing a premium on the values of those positioned to advance your career.

Best practices

Direct your efforts on the growth of the company &/or development of your project/team

Remain teachable by

  • asking questions if you disagree before stating your view

  • identifying the expert and defer to them

  • allowing others to execute imperfectly

  • standardizing leadership feedback in post mortem (& share with team)

  • publishing learnings in places where anyone can view
